Ride sharing becomes reality in region

Website facilitates connections for commuters who wish to save fuel, money and time

Charleston, SC - August 17th - South Carolina non-profit Carolina Commuter Solutions, is reviving its initiative to promote ride sharing in South Carolina. The organization’s vision is to make it simpler for South Carolina commuters to save money by sharing rides between commuters with similar drives to work.

Six years ago when Carolina Commuter Solutions founder, Nelson Ohl, launched the organization’s website http://www.carolinacommuter.com there was only tepid interest in carpooling.

Today, with commuters facing crippling fuel prices and increased drive times due to traffic congestion, Ohl hopes that commuters will reconsider the benefits of ride-sharing; saving money and environmental improvement.

Carolina Commuter Solutions is the result of Ohl’s vision of an improved community. One where there is reduced traffic congestion, an improved work experience, a better quality of life yielding enhanced personal health, and a cleaner environment.

Commuters working in the same or nearby locations can partner with others who share a compatible destination or route. To find one another, commuters simply log in to http://www.carolinacommuter.com. The website’s user friendly ride-share matching service is available to South Carolina commuters without charge. Companies, schools and universities, government agencies, and other organizations wishing to offer a customized ride-share matching as a benefit within their organization may license exclusive access to the service for a minimal cost.

Ohl believes, “Carpooling deserves consideration as part of a broad strategy to improve South Carolina’s energy independence. Positioned on the conservation side of energy policy, emphasizing carpooling is an opportunity to remind commuters that they have the authority and indeed the obligation to better our region's approach to transportation.”

Ohl reminds everyone that we can change the way we approach commutes. The infrastructure for carpooling is already in place. He says, “Car pooling is about people helping people. A side benefit is that its likely commuters will meet new friends, as well as, save money on fuel, car maintenance, and parking expenses.”

Carolina Commuter Solutions seeks sponsors, donations and volunteers to further the organization’s ability to deliver products and services that promote efficient transportation strategies which save commuters time, energy, and money.
